Roald Dahl Day 📚🎈⭐️

Friday 13th September was not only unlucky for some and a full moon 🌕  but it was also Roald  Dahl Day! Children and adults across the UK celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday by reading his stories and talking about the characters he created! Miss Hamilton gifted us little yellow badges for the occasion.

This year, P5.1 took part in a UK-wide Live Lesson through CBBC. We tuned in at 9am to take part in the lesson which followed the theme of bravery. We had to think of a time where we had been brave and create a character inspired by bravery.

We worked so hard on our characters and loved sharing them with one another. Once we were finished, we tuned back into the lesson to get inspiration from other famous authors and Dahl’s books on how to create a good story. We started to think about an obstacle that our character could face. This got us all thinking about a good, gripping story that could follow!

Many of us have now started to write our own stories using Miss Hamilton’s writing box. We are so proud of our characters and had great fun making them.

After our creative character building, we listened to an extract from Matilda written by Roald Dahl. She was very brave to stand up against Miss Trunchball.

We ended our Roald Dahl celebrations with a fun quiz on the creative, made up words that Dahl used in his books nicknamed Gobblefunk. He used to take known words in English and add bits to them to make them funny and different. We did very well!

Happy Roald Dahl Day! 📚🎈🥳

Happy Birthday 🎈

In Primary 5, we want to let each other know how much we appreciate them as friends and classmates. We want to build a strong feeling of kindness, respect and belonging in our classroom and beyond.

Therefore, when it is your birthday you will receive a personalised birthday post filled with lots of compliments from your classmates. Every child is looking forward to seeing what lovely things have been written about them.

We kicked off the year with two birthdays in one week! We hope you had the best time 🎈🥳

P5 Maths Escape Room 🏃‍♂️➗➕➖

P5 entered the classroom to find it had turned into an escape room! Armed with only a locked phone and 8 clues, we had to work together to solve a variety of maths problems. The clues would give us the password to unlock the phone and escape!

We read graphs, directions, solved calculations and applied place value and problem solving strategies to find the clues. We had so much fun revising maths skills and we can’t wait for the next one. Everyone supported one another and checked their answers before posting them away to b checked.. The last group out managed to escape with over 5 minutes to spare – impressive! Congratulations to our winning group who won themselves a Scribbler animal rubber of their choice!

Class Charter

After receiving our silver award in Rights Respecting Schools, we are going into the new school year aiming for gold! 🥇🥈

We revised the rights of the child and selected six rights that we felt were  the most important to us. We discussed and agreed how adults and children could respect these rights. We selected a theme for our charter,  making sure that we signed our pictures as a way of showing a commitment to the rights,

Enterprise Project

Well done Primary 4/1 you successfully worked as a team to develop a business plan, work out costs and create a product to raise money for charity.

You worked on entrepreneurial skills and demonstrated a high degree of motivation to make your plans work. I am very proud of you!

We raised £60 for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. This charity was chosen by you for many special reasons.

Fractions

We have been revising fractions and working out equivalent fractions using a big selection of resources.

We had a go at at simplifying fractions by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.
