🤢👾Germs Games🤢👾

We enjoyed being tiny teachers today in Primary 1/1.  We  helped teach the children in Miss Lowson’s class about germs and keeping healthy through our fun games.  The Primary one children had a great time and we loved being teachers.

🌴🌱🌿☘️Rainforest ☘️🌿🌴🌱

We have just started exploring the different  rainforest around the world.

We discovered that all rainforests are between the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn.   We also remembered from Primary 2 that there is an imaginary line around Earth called the Equator.

As a class we will soon decide which rainforest to investigate further.

Number Systems

We investigated number systems in history. The three we found the most interesting were Egyptian, Babylonian and Mayan. In teams we had to put together a jigsaw of each number system and work out what the symbols would be in our number system.

Once we worked out each number system we had a go at some simple adding and subtracting calculations using the different number systems. I think we are all happy we use 1,2,3,4😅.

✖️✖️✖️Digital Routes ✖️✖️✖️

We worked out the digital roots of each multiplication table from 2 to 9.  This is how we worked it out!

Example:

2×9=18  we can’t have a double digit so we split it to make an adding calculation 1+8= 9.

We then  used the number pattern to make interesting visual displays.  You have to be experts at multiplication to successful create a pattern.

So we must be multiplication experts as our displays were perfect😀.

💡Electricity💡

We have explored the history of electricity from the Ancient Greeks creating static electricity by rubbing amber together.  We discovered that Benjamin Franklin studied electricity and was able to prove that lightning was electrical.

We looked at everyday appliances and investigated what type of power they use.  We then sorted the appliances using a Venn diagram  into mains or battery power.

We discovered that in the UK, mains electricity is produced by gas or coal power stations.   We also generate electricity by wind turbines, solar panels and hydroelectric power.  We think there should be more electricity generated this way.   Ramine  told us she has solar panels in her house💡.

During our investigation we discovered that electricity is generated at power stations, then sent sent from transformers along wires to pylons.   As the electricity gets closer to villages or cities the wires are then placed underground before it comes to our 🏠 homes.

We created posters to highlight how to be safe when using electrical appliances.  We can now state which  materials conduct electricity, like metal and which materials are good insulators, like rubber.

After all this researching we then explored electric circuits. We know that electricity flows in a circuit from the negative pole of a battery to its positive pole. This flow is called a current. We designed  a circuit using the different symbols for each componant and the tried it out using the appliances.

🤢🤢😷Germs😷🤢🤢

We have explored germs and discovered there are four types such as bacteria, virus, fungi and protozoa.🤢🤮

We know germs are tiny organisims, or living things that can cause disease. Germs are so small and sneaky that they creep into our bodies without being noticed. We investigated how germs are spread and how we can prevent this.👾👾👾

We used glitter gel to demonstrate how germ are spread around the class when we touch things.👾

We also investigated and observed the growth of germs on germ covered potatoes 🥔 and 🍞 bread. We used three potatoes and three slices of bread. One was passed around the class and we all touched it. The second was passed around after we washed our hands and the last was placed in a bag without being touched.  We are still monitoring the growth of the germs. 👾🤢

We used water beads to demonstrate how germs multiply and cover large areas.

After researching germs and how to protect ourselves we created fun board games using all our knowledge.  We are going to visit an infant class to share our learning and help teach others to wash their hands.

We placed loads of pom-poms in a hoop to demonstrate how germs multiply and show the number of germ in the size of a full stop.

Lacey and Zac enjoyed taking part in the sneeze experiment and spraying people that got to close to her.

💀💀💀Day of the Dead💀💀💀

Have a look at our Day of the Dead celebration  display.

The Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico.

We worked on our fine line drawing skills to create a grinning skeleton.  Skeletons smile on this day to show children not to be scared of death. We painted marigold flowers as Mexican people believe the flower helps guide the spirt of loved ones to return to their alters on the 29 th of October to the 2nd of November.

We also worked on our cutting skills to make bright Papel Picado paper decorations.
