Fake News

Our new topic was on fake news.  Over the last few weeks we have investigated what fake news is and how we can spot it.

We also researched lots of different types of social media like Facebook and Instagram and  investigated how they can have an impact on how we feel or what we think is real.

🇨🇳 ☕️ Chinese Tea 🍵 🇨🇳

We found out that tea has a major influence on the development of Chinese culture and Chinese traditions is closely connected with  tea.

We investigated the different  types of tea in China and discovered green tea is the oldest and most popular.  There is also black, white and oolong tea.  We usually have tea in a teabag but in China 🇨🇳 it is made using leaves from the tea plant and boiled water.

Have a look at us making tea the traditional Chinese way.

Chinese Oprea Masks

We enjoyed learning all about the Chinese opera and what each colour represents.  The Chinese Oprea is one of the oldest known dramatic art forms worldwide. Chinese Oprea masks are a way of representing different characters, personalities and moods.

We discovered that red means loyalty and integrity. Blue faces can mean stubbornness, white means evil, yellow means cruel and black means integrity.  We had lots of fun trying on the masks and creating our own designs.

LEGO

This term we have explored the elements of storytelling through creative writing, art and drama.  We have investigated what engineering is and looked at structures around us. We investigated the properties of different materials and discused  why they are used in building.

We decided to build a setting for a 🎥 film. The first skills we had to master was creating fantastic characters, an interesting setting and coming up with an imaganitive story.

We used resources such as www.intofilm.org and scratch to investigate LEGO films and animation.  After creating interesting characters we started to build our sets.

We worked in four teams to design a new LEGO world 🌎. Just before the spring break we completed our sets and storyboards.  We will keep you updated when we start our stop start animation.

World 📚 Book Day 📚

Today we enjoyed celebrating ‘World Book Day’ by sharing our favourite books with a friend. Primary 4/1 and 4/2 decided on a relaxing place to read to each other.  It was a good opportunity to visit each other’s class.  Here are some photos of the amazing readers in the Primary 4/1 class today.

Impressionism

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about the impressionism art movement of the 19th century.  We investigated the art work of Claude Monet,  one of the first artists to develop the idea of capturing the fleeting moments of ordinary life.  We enjoyed looking at Monet’s many paintings of lily ponds and shimmering water.

Later we discovered the art of Vincent Van  Gogh and  found out he was Dutch.  We studied his painting ‘The Starry Night’  1889 and tried to copy his painting style to create the painting.

Chinese Paper Cutting

We have been learning about the art of paper cutting in China. Usually the artwork is completed on red paper, as red is associated with festivals and happiness in Chinese culture.   We tried to follow the template to make the double happiness pattern.  This design is used to celebrate weddings.

Music

This term we have been working on our listening skills in music.  We have focused on the Carnival of the Animal by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. We listened to lots of different animal songs and learnt new words like staccato, when music is detached or separated and legato,  when music is played smoothly and connected.
