Transitions

This week we enjoyed our second visit from Miss Bell who is an Art teacher at Barrhead High. We were given newspaper and bandages to make donut sculptures for the P7 Transitions Café which will be held in June. This activity was rather messy but lots of fun!

On Monday we joined in a virtual lesson with the RME and Social Studies departments.  A former pupil from  Cross Arthurlie who is now in S1 joined the lesson too. She was telling us of her experience in Barrhead High so far which has been very positive.  She even took time to answer some of the questions we had. During the lesson we learned about a girl called Malala Yousafzai who is famous for standing up for  the rights of girls and fighting for all girls to have an education. It was very interesting to find out about Malala and to get an insight into the learning we might do in Social Studies in S1.

We have also been invited to join a Family Learning Numeracy Workshop organised by Barrhead High. This will take place on the evening of Thursday 4th November, 7pm-8pm, and is an online event.  We hope lots of families will be able to attend.

WW2 Art

We have been busy creating artwork based on our topic of World War Two. We created our soldier art by using tissue paper in camouflage colours to create a collage. Then we did pencil studies of soldiers and added them to our collage.
We also created chalk pictures to represent buildings targeted during the Blitz and we were really pleased with our final pieces. Below is some examples of our work.

Maths Week Scotland ➕✖️➖➗

We’ve had a busy week participating in challenges to celebrate Maths Week Scotland. Each day we have been set a countdown Maths challenge by Barrhead High to reach a target number 🎯 in under three minutes. Well done to Nathan who was successful in Wednesday’s challenge! 🌟We’ve also enjoyed some musical starters 🎶 in our lessons which has involved us solving Maths problems performed by famous singers. On Tuesday we worked really hard in pairs to complete coding and cipher puzzles. Kyle H and Kaiden were first to successfully solve the puzzles.👏🏻  We’ve also completed a STEM challenge where we learned how to create Curves of Pursuit and achieved excellent results. Finally we finished the week with an Escape Room challenge where we used our Maths skills to solve a range of problems.

Kensuke’s Kingdom

This term we have been enjoying our class novel Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. It tells the story of Michael who finds himself washed up on an island in the Pacific after travelling the world with his parents on their boat the Peggy Sue.  We are keen to discover how Michael will eventually leave the island. In the meantime we have busy responding to the story through writing and artwork.

Welcome to Primary 7

Hello and welcome to our class blog where you will be able to keep up to date with our learning throughout the session.
Everyone has had a positive start to the year and we have all been working very hard so far.
Over the course of the week we have been learning long multiplication and we finished the week with an escape room challenge. Our winners were Kaiden and Kyle who were first to escape but thankfully we all managed to find our way out before lunch.

This week in Art we were learning about the artist Edvard Munch. He is most famous for his painting The Scream.  We created our own individual pictures based on this famous painting  but also collaborated to make a giant version to display in our classroom.

Keep up the great work Primary Seven!
