Primary Seven have safely arrived at Lockerbie Manor and are taking some time to unpack their belongings and settle into their dormitories. Let’s hope everyone gets a good night sleep! 🛏 😴 💤
Today we had our first visit from Miss Brown who is a Music teacher at Barrhead High. In our lesson we had lots of fun learning the ukulele. We learned that the ukulele is part of the string family. We were also taught how to hold the instrument in our left hands and how to play the chords C and F. Below is a little sample of our lesson.

We received another visit from the staff at Barrhead High. This time it was Mr Maybury and Miss Van Looy from the pastoral team who visited. They talked us through what a typical day at high school might look like and explained to us that we will all have time with our pastoral teachers each week and that they are there to support our transition to secondary.
We got creative during our snowy Friday this January and created snowmen mandalas. We watched a little tutorial first then concentrated on drawing the outline of our snowmen. Next we filled the sections with interesting designs using black fine-liner pens. Below is a little sample of our work. ☃️
Today we received a visit from Mrs Johnston, head teacher of Barrhead High and Miss Potter, depute head teacher. They explained to us what life is like at Barrhead High and what we can expect when we go there in August. We learned that Barrhead High is a Rights Respecting school and also that there are plenty of clubs available for us to join. We had the opportunity to ask some questions about the school and this was really helpful to help us understand a little better what we can expect.
Primary 7 enjoyed their first Mandarin lesson of the session today. We were learning about the culture of China and were revising greetings. Our Mandarin teacher was very impressed by all that we had remembered. Click on the link below to watch our singing! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Primary 7 were set a homework challenge of designing and making their own trench from materials they had at home. Mrs Holmes and I have been really impressed by the standard of trenches we have had come back! 🌟 We can see a lot of hard work has gone into this by all of the pupils and lots of imagination too. Well done P7!
Below is just a sample of our trenches:
We took part in an online Coding Challenge with over 100 schools from around the country. The session took place throughTeams and we all worked on chrome books using the program Scratch to take part. Our task was to create a Butterfly Garden as the coding session had an important message about the importance of pollinators since this coding session also coincided with COP 26. Many of us experienced great success and managed to create multiple moving butterflies in our gardens. We hope to take part in future sessions. Below is an example of our work.
This week Primary Seven were given the task of making their teacher shudder! They were extremely successful in doing this through very spooky writing. Our stories were very descriptive and many managed to include similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia to help bring these chilling stories to life.
We also had some spooky calculations to do in Maths and have created some really effective Bat art 🦇 as well. We finished the week with a movie and some treats. Well done to all who took part in dressing up. We had some great costumes.
