Euro Quiz 2019

Congratulations and well done to Millie, Ruby, Mitchell and Dominique who represented our school at the East Renfrewshire Euro Quiz Heats  in which we came 5th! They  worked extremely hard, with great enthusiasm and determination in preparation for the quiz. They answered questions about the geography of Europe, European politics, modern languages and history, sports, culture and pop. We are super proud of their efforts 🙂

Voting Day

Today we learned about the process for voting during an election. We created our own polling station outside the classroom and had a ballot box too. Each of our names were ticked off an electoral register and we waited in a queue to vote. It was a tricky decision as each of the political parties had great solutions to solve some of the issues we face today.  Congratulations to the ‘Children’s Disorder Party’ in our class who won the most votes in the Primary 6 elections of 2019.  We have throughly enjoyed learning about the Scottish Parliament and  creating our own Political Parties.

Political Party Campaign

We had a nerve-wracking but exciting day campaigning for votes on Thursday afternoon. Each political party presented their speech and manifesto to the voters. We created posters, slogans, flags,  banners, leaflets and stickers and used these as part of our campaign to try and persuade as many voters as possible.  The polling station opens on Friday and we can’t wait to see who gets the most votes!

Below are pictures of each of our political parties:

The Wildlife Forever Party

The Nature Protection Party

The Smoke-free Party

The Against Party

The Children’s Disorders Party

Class Debate

As part of our Scottish Parliament topic we have been learning about the debating chamber and what goes on there. We decided to have our own class debate. We voted on a debate topic.  The motion for our debate was ‘should there be a limit on the amount of time children play video games?’

We researched arguments for and against the debate topic and then split into two teams. We all argued points for or against the motion and backed up our answers well.  Below are some pictures of both teams before the debate began. These are our ‘keen to win’ faces! We really enjoyed the debate and look forward to having another one soon.

Preparations for Election Day

As part of our Scottish Parliament topic, we have decided to create our own political parties. We have been busy preparing for Election Day where each political party will present a speech, manifesto, posters and  more. Today we created a party name, rosette colour theme and logo for our political parties. Keep an eye on our blog to find out which party wins the most votes!

Symmetry

The blue group enjoyed using the laptops to create symmetrical patterns and to identify lines of symmetry. We had to really focus to make sure our shapes and patterns were symmetrical.

Christmas around the world

This week we learned about Christmas around the world. We discussed different Christmas traditions in different countries. We worked in groups of 6 to research a country and create a poster with all the information we found about the traditions of that country. We enjoyed presenting our posters to the rest of the class and finding out interesting information about other countries in the world. It was interesting to see the similarities and differences between our country and other countries.

Christmas Party

Today was our class Christmas party. We had a fun afternoon filled with games, snacks, photos, crackers, prizes and music. Our favourite game was the mars bar game, it was exciting and quite competitive at the same time. Have a look at our pictures below. We loved dressing up.
