Welcome to Primary 6

We have had a very busy first few weeks back to school and have settled into Primary 6 very well! Keep an eye out on our blog to follow our learning journey thorughout Primary 6. Parents and families you can also check our homework diaries to see what we will be learning about each week.

Water filtration

We have been discussing all the things that we use water for and that it is important for that water to be clean. We have been learning about the process of filtration used to clean water. We then worked in groups to try to design and build our own water filter to clean our dirty water.

“It’s going to work like a sieve.”

“Ours looks cleaner!”

“Oh dear it didn’t work…it’s because we didn’t use any of the materials for filtering.”

“I didn’t think it would work but look it has!”

The Water Cycle

We have spent the day learning all about the water cycle. We created a model so we could observe the processes of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. After talking, watching and reading about the water cycle it was time for us to use our new knowledge and understanding as well as our creativity to present what we had learned. We made models, posters and leaflets.

Chocolate making!

At the end of our Charlie and the Chocolate factory topic we used the classroom as a room in the factory to make our own chocolates!

We have been crushing, mixing, stirring, rolling and taking turns to make Oreo truffles. They are in the fridge ready for finishing off tomorrow

How do we hear?

We are continuing to learn about our senses and today have been learning all about the different parts of the ear and how they help us to hear.  We also created a model of an eardrum in the classroom using a bowl and cling film. We could see the vibrations when a loud noise was made.

We also made ‘telephones’ using string and paper cups.

Everyone now wants to learn about ear wax!!!

Senses

We have enjoyed exploring all our senses this afternoon at the start of our new science topic! We have been experimenting, investigating and observing before recording our results.

Stirling Trip

Primary 5 had an amazing trip to Stirling Castle.  We thoroughly enjoyed the ‘War Wolf’ tour and free walk of the castle.

Pupils enjoyed wearing traditional attire.

Overall it was  a fantastic day and  lots learning took place.  We look forward to putting  what we learned into practise in the coming days.

Maths Week

This week was Maths Week.  As part of Maths Week we did a Sumdog competition.

Another part of Maths Week was our Class Company project.  We created business plans, logos and team names.  We designed smoothies, researched ingredients and figured out the price of ingredients.
