Learning about Robots

We have been learning about robots and their impact on the world.  We built our own robots from scratch and then  programmed them to move.

We had a visit from  Barrhead High School who came down to give us a robot challenge.

What makes a computer work?

Digital Literacy plays a big part in our learning and teaching in school and we were curious to see exactly how it all worked.

We had some old computers in the cupboard so we decided to take them apart and do a little bit of investigative work to see what was inside! Our next job is putting them back together 🤔. Mr Cummings used to build computers so he has promised to help us!

Artefacts from Wartime

Daily life was hard and certainly very different to ours in the early 1940s.

In groups, we were given different everyday objects and we had to discuss together what we thought they were and what they were used for! Some objects were more obvious than others!

Marvellous Medals

Medals were awarded to many during the war for acts of bravery. Some of our families still have medals that older relatives earned during the war.  🏅🎖🏵

We researched the different kind of medals and investigated the different shapes and designs. We then designed our own and created them using clay. Here are some photographs of us carving them. We are still waiting for the clay to dry before we paint them!😃

World War 2

We are really enjoying working together to learn all about World War 2. We have incorporated our learning across the curriculum to find out more about the different battles, how war affected life in Britain and lots of other aspects of war in 1940s.

Code Cracking

The enigma machine was used by the Germans to send secret messages during the war. Thankfully, Britain had amazing mathematicians who were able to crack this code. We had a go at using our online enigma machines to write and decipher our own messages.

Morse code was another important way of sending secret messages during wartime. We investigated the history of Morse Code, had a go at cracking some messages and then we applied our scientific skills on electric circuits to create our own Mose Code machines.  We had fun trying them out with the class.
