(Science, Technology,Engineering, Mathematics)<\/p>\n<p>Following on from learning about the sense of hearing in the science area we have been talking about how many senses there are and what they all are. We found out there are 5 senses. Today we discussed which of our senses we would like to focus on, we chose sight.<\/p>\n<p>The children looked through the microscope to SEE the different specimens on the micro slides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/028740CD-4597-457D-AD7C-768F62C77186.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-23818\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/028740CD-4597-457D-AD7C-768F62C77186-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can see it, it looks like a little bit of grass from the garden&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s tiny stones&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Now it is BIG&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Next we did an experiment to SEE if the items we chose would Sink or Float. We discussed each item before it went in the water. We predicted whether each individual item\u00a0 would float or sink, developing our critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/8A5CC8FD-BEB1-4557-A625-52A06AE6DDFB.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-23819\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/8A5CC8FD-BEB1-4557-A625-52A06AE6DDFB-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The golf ball will sink&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why do you think it will sink?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because it&#8217;s\u00a0heavy&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pom pom will float&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;i know, it&#8217;s not heavy, it&#8217;s light\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI can see it sinking all the way to the bottom\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We used our mark making skills to record our findings. The children made tally marks for each item and recorded them on a table.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/6FC8F729-1AAE-4BA0-A292-E090BB19B5FE.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-23820\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/6FC8F729-1AAE-4BA0-A292-E090BB19B5FE-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c3 floated and 2 sinked\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For our final experiment, the children used pipettes (developing their fine motor skills and hand- eye co-ordination) to add different coloured food colouring to individual glases and then filled them up with water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/7B5D631A-491B-4D88-9D7F-1AFA1651CEE6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-23821\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/7B5D631A-491B-4D88-9D7F-1AFA1651CEE6-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In each glass they added a paper towel so that half was in one glass and half in the one beside.<\/p>\n<p>We watched as the coloured water transferred from one glass to another causing some of the colours to mix creating different colours in the empty glass.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/E48C4031-E615-44FF-B7C4-80D924AB4E6D.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-23822\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2023\/03\/E48C4031-E615-44FF-B7C4-80D924AB4E6D-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Look i can SEE it moving, the blue and yellow have turned green&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They mix together&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The children have had lots of fun exploring their sight while being mini scientists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s STEM\u00a0 week!
