This week in the studio, we have been having lots of fun sewing and weaving. There were lots of volunteers to create DIY boards for us to practice our weaving skills.<\/p>\n

We practiced our technique…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cyou go over and under and over again! It\u2019s tricky\u201d<\/p>\n

Some children enjoyed exploring different patterns while weaving\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201dit\u2019s like an M!\u201d<\/p>\n

Weaving is a great experience for children to develop little muscles as it is very intricate work, and these movements help \u00a0support the development of their fine motor skills.<\/p>\n

After developing our little muscles, we put our creative hats on \ud83d\udc69\ud83c\udffc\u200d\ud83c\udfa8<\/p>\n

\u201dI want to make a little cushion for my LOL doll\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This sparked some curiosity in the children, so we decided to explore it further.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to chop my own stuffing for my little pillow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to sew a button\u201d<\/p>\n

The children had lots of fantastic ideas to share\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI’m going to make a bow\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cmine is like a little butterfly\u201d<\/p>\n

Sewing with children is great for many reasons, but most importantly it\u2019s a really fun way to express ourselves. The children have been talking about making \u201cpurses\u201d for \u201call their pennies\u201d! I wonder what other wonderful role playing ideas we could come up with next week for the sewing area?
