There is lots of activities we can do to help us on our journey to writing. The first step is ensuring \u00a0we have the gross and fine motor skills ready to hold our pencils.<br \/>\nWe used material and scarfs and chose our song to wiggle to.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/174D501E-EA52-41C9-A6C8-65A095EB7C2A-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21207\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/174D501E-EA52-41C9-A6C8-65A095EB7C2A-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFirst we copied Emma\u2019s actions moving the scarfs round and round, twisting and twirling. Then we listened to the rhythm of the music, and then we all used our own movements to control the scarfs.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/A15B3ED0-29CA-4D31-A46A-93DFBA5DCF20-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21209\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/A15B3ED0-29CA-4D31-A46A-93DFBA5DCF20-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAnother activity we can scribble while you wiggle to is painting to music. We chose music from an orchestra and listened to the sound each instrument made and painted what we thought the sound would look like.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/288CD787-75A0-46C1-B3A0-36B2C9A2D1D3-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21210\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/288CD787-75A0-46C1-B3A0-36B2C9A2D1D3-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWas it a splash or bang, would the sound make us paint long strokes or short.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/59B0BFCE-60F9-4406-BDFF-F42FA1043357.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21208\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/59B0BFCE-60F9-4406-BDFF-F42FA1043357-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWe used paint brushed but one of our children decided to use her hands to represent the sounds she heard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/49928F31-A31D-46F9-9416-DC9AABFFE802-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21211\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/49928F31-A31D-46F9-9416-DC9AABFFE802-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another scribble while you wiggle activity our children enjoy is using large paper and a wide range of mark making resources to mark make and use scribble streams. We chose the instrumental Encanto songs. This music was fast with an upbeat tempo and we used different movements with our pens\/pencils to this music.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/51647CE9-782F-4C7B-A78C-059082F7A31E-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21212\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/06\/51647CE9-782F-4C7B-A78C-059082F7A31E-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We enjoyed \u00a0working together and showing each other what we had created and what we each thought the music sounded like. We even used our turn taking and sharing skills.
