{"id":20408,"date":"2022-03-14T15:29:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T15:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/?p=20408"},"modified":"2022-03-14T15:29:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T15:29:14","slug":"water-xylophone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/2022\/03\/14\/water-xylophone\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Xylophone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week is Science Week and we will be exploring science themed experiences throughout all the different areas in each of the playrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Today in our music area we made a water xylophone using some glass jars and food colouring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/61871DC5-5E12-4894-BBE4-84659D981E84.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20409\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/61871DC5-5E12-4894-BBE4-84659D981E84-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were developing our fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as we used a pipette to pour the food colouring in to the jar after which, we added some water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/AC96005D-D4E4-4DD4-AFBC-11AFA6B5EF34-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20410\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/AC96005D-D4E4-4DD4-AFBC-11AFA6B5EF34-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the children had added the water, they lined up all the jars and noticed that each jar had a different volume of water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dthat one is filled right to the top\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dthe red one has just a little bit\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/0FD79849-D04F-4FCF-B7D3-63CA994979E0-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20413\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/0FD79849-D04F-4FCF-B7D3-63CA994979E0-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We used a beater on the jars to listen to the sounds it made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe blue one sounds really low and the red one sounds really high\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I asked if the children knew what made the sounds but they were unsure.<\/p>\n<p>After searching the internet we learned that when we use the beater to tap the jar it causes sound waves which are vibrations that travel through the water to make the sound. When there is less water the pitch is higher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/44F2F3E0-CA47-44CE-9F0B-F75C94564DC2-rotated.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-20412\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/03\/44F2F3E0-CA47-44CE-9F0B-F75C94564DC2-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We listened to the different pitches as we played our own music, we are going to collect some more jars to add lots of different sounds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week is Science Week and we will be exploring science themed experiences throughout all the different areas in each of the playrooms.
