This has sparked the children&#8217;s interest and they have begun to show great creativity whilst using a needle and thread.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/52371766-5B51-4BFD-A589-5B87A0000A1D.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19812 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/52371766-5B51-4BFD-A589-5B87A0000A1D.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1260\" height=\"945\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The children have being learning the names of all the equipment we use to sew. \u00a0A needle (this can be jaggy) some thread and scissors (watch out they can be sharp !). The children have been developing their fine motor skills along with their hand and eye coordination when practising using the needle and thread on our sewing table.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/531C75FB-F61B-492E-B2DF-DFEA22D9EAEB.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19813 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/531C75FB-F61B-492E-B2DF-DFEA22D9EAEB.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1260\" height=\"945\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the children\u2019s skills have improved we thought we could try to sew on a button . \u00a0First we chose our button and reminded ourselves about the jaggy needle. We then tried to thread our needle &#8211; this was quite tricky and sometimes we needed a little bit of help. Some of the children chose more than one button and used their creative skills to make a pattern with the buttons. We then sewed\u00a0on the button and cut the thread off at the end. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/69C71743-4936-4723-A155-D2D786A4B8C1.jpeg\" data-wp-editing=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19814 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/cartmill\/files\/2022\/01\/69C71743-4936-4723-A155-D2D786A4B8C1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1260\" height=\"945\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe children worked carefully and took time to make sure the needle went in the correct place. \u00a0Concentration skills were very well used today and the children were very pleased with their buttons. \u00a0The material and buttons were then used as placemats, parachutes and purses.
