Today the children decided to explore weight. They gathered resources and used them to create scales on which they could balance and compare their body weight. The children used lots of mathematical language to describe their findings. Matthew found that he was heavier than a ball and that if he stood in the middle the wood stayed balanced.
Other children decided to add some shampoo to the large outdoor sink. Splashing and watching the water and bubbles flow was great fun. Dominic commented; “this is so much fun”
The children have been carrying out some experiments. Yesterday they tried mixing mento’s with coke to make a volcano…it didn’t work!
Next they decided to light the fire pit and toast some marshmallows. Sticky but yummy!
Then the decided to create their own Volcano. Bhavin and the other children are going to try bicarbonate of soda and vinegar tomorrow. I wonder what will happen.
Today some children went on a visit to Rouken Glen Park to observe and catch some insects and pond life.
The children had lots of fun with the big nets and even managed to collect some specimens. Later they had a look at some posters to see if they could match their find to the creatures in the pictures. Great fun!!
We thank all of our children, parents and family for the wonderful celebration they created in our centre today. It was a happy day for our children going off to school in August and they were so confident and sang so beautifully it was all very emotional.
Rhonda recently completed a photography course and she is developing a very good eye as you will see from these lovely family shots.
Today the children had a great celebration of song and movement.
Their families were very impressed with the children and their fantastic voices. Some parents managed to participate especially during the “funky monkey” song and “let’s move our head.”
We have a new addition to our outdoor recycling plant wall to explore different textures. Jade decided to write numbers on the tiles. The children enjoyed creating their own water station and then explored how the water flows.
The children also joined in a bookbug session under a shelter they helped put up. Lots of cool singing and action songs.
The children explored glue today. Damon, Kaile and Lewis painted long pieces of coloured wool very carefully with lots of glue. They then dripped the glue onto the paper and placed the long pieces of string in lovely wiggly patterns. The pictures are beautiful. Damon was especially happy with his.
Our lovely new nursery guests arrived today.
The children were happy to meet the caterpillars that will be with us until they retreat to their chrysalis and change into something beautiful. I wonder what that can be.
Some children were able to tell staff but we shall see if they are correct.
The boys and girls liked their little wriggly bodies and watched as they crawled up the sides of the container. They then collected paper and pens to draw a picture of our new friends.
Today the boys and girls helped Michelle to plant some lovely herbs into our garden.
The planters were filled with soil and then the children showed their green fingered skills.
The children planted; Lavender, Parsley, Lemonbams and a Curry Plant.
Today the children worked hard in the Family Centre Garden. They helped to plant shrubs and tulips.
The children put on rubber gloves and helped to break up the soil. They talked about how the soil was really soft and it had a smell, like potatoes.
Once the shrubs were planted the children said that it looked like a fairy garden. Next week the children are going to help plant some herbs. Kaile said they smell nice.
