Forest Fun!

We had lots of fun exploring our new Forest school site this morning.   The children noticed that the river was “going really fast” and had “lots of water in it”. The children thought this might be because it has been raining.

We have been investigating floating and sinking. We collected some stones, sticks, long grass and leaves to experiment which would float and which would sink.

We had lots of fun throwing our stones into the water. We found that the stones sank to the bottom of the river. We discovered that the bigger, heavier stones made a bigger splash sound and made “lots of big circles” and that the smaller, lighter stones made smaller splashes and “little circles” in the water.

Next we decided to try our grass and leaves. We discovered that they all floated! The smaller bits of grass and leaves floated away faster than the longer grass. We had lots of fun watching them race down the river. The small grass and leaves won the race!

One of the children made a fantastic boat using a large leaf and some small sticks. We were  so delighted to see it float in the river!

We decided  to explore further up the river and discovered a brilliant slide! We had lots of fun climbing up and sliding back down!

After so much fun, it was time to have a wee snack before heading back to Cart Mill for lunch!
