Outdoor Fun

It has been so lovely to welcome our children back to our Cart Mill garden and to hear it filled will laughter again.  We’ve been so busy over the last couple of weeks. Here’s a wee look at what we’ve been up to!

Our budding gardeners have been busy digging our planters, filling pots, watering them, and of course making some mud pies! We hope to begin our vegetable and flower planting soon and plan to make good use of our amazing greenhouse.

Our new obstacle course has been very popular. The children have demonstrated brilliant teamwork and turn taking when constructing their own obstacle courses using loose parts.

Physical activity is so important to improve our health and well-being. Our children are very active and have demonstrated excellent gross motor skills through throwing, catching, balancing, stretching, pushing and pulling.

The children have demonstrated their excellent numeracy and literacy skills through mark making and making good use of our number square.

We are always amazed by the wonderful imaginative thinking and creativity of our children. From using block play to construct a castle to “keep the dinosaurs out” to building a castle using mud to “stick the bricks together like a proper castle”, we certainly have some budding architects, builders and artists at Cart Mill! Of course we can’t have a castle without some Princesses, so the children decided to make their own! After tidy up time the children decided to make their own Fairy Tree!

Through exploring their curiosity, the children decided to collect some sticks from the “big tree we see from our garden”. It was wonderful to see their creations from, campfires, making their own trees to having a sword fight!

We’ve had a bit of mixed weather over the last couple of weeks but we’ve used it to our advantage! From collecting rainfall, exploring measuring and pouring by making “cupcakes” in our mud kitchen to just having fun splashing in some puddles!

It’s always a day filled with fun and laughter in our Cart Mill garden!
