Today in the toddlers we were exploring the garden investigating items that rolled down the plank.
Some items rolled a little
Some items rolled a lot
It’s good to take turns and work together and work together to problem solve. The children in the toddler room love to explore their curiosity and explore new experiences.
It takes a lot of practice but the toddlers were engaged in their experience 😁
Our children really enjoyed the story of Rapunzel and wanted to make a Rapunzel castle.
The children quickly got to work selecting their materials and paint to creating their castle.
The children decided to use the big rollers and brushes. We even explored the paint with their hands.
Once the castle walls were up it was time to furnish the inside.
They brought in logs to sit on, card for carpet and a door.
“This is the door”
”we need a carpet”
The children’s story continued to evolve all afternoon. They had great fun sharing their creativity and imagination.
“This is the bed”
“This can be the kitchen”
Along with being fun, using imagination in their play improves their creativity and promotes communication and language, develops social skills while collaborating with others, allows the children time to explore, to process and to make sense of real life situations.
The toddlers are growing vegetables in our nursery garden and wondered what they could make with them. They decided on vegetable soup. We discussed how to use our knives safely when chopping our vegetables. We talked about the different types of vegetables we were using.
The toddlers are Developing essential skills, following instructions, measuring using fine motor skills developing hand eye coordination learning early maths and science.
Today we had a little change about in the Discovery Room. We moved some of our areas to give us more space to explore and investigate. The children helped to redesign our play space and had lots of enjoyment playing in the new layouts of the areas.
With the different space the children decided to create their own big ramps. To see what could roll down them.
First we tried the car on the wooden plank. It went fast and rolled right across the room.
Next we tried to see how fast the car would roll down the big tube. It was very exciting waiting to see the car come out the other side.
Some of the children made their own ramp from the blocks. And decided to investigate what else would roll down the ramp.
We asked the question what else can we roll? We found that the cotton reels were great to roll down the wooden plank, they went almost as fast as the car.
We even discovered that the wooden circles spin and roll
Today was a very busy day in our Discovery room, I wonder what adventures tomorrow will bring.
Lots of socks is a fun initiative to raise the profile of Downs Syndrome throughout the world. The Awareness Day for us was today the19th March and this was chance to raise awareness with our children and their families.
Why socks? Well, because chromosomes look like socks and people with Downs Syndrome have an extra chromosome! “Lots of Socks” is acknowledged around the world as being associated with Down’s Syndrome.
We thank you for your kind donations for Down’s Syndrome Scotland. Here is a quote from them about why today is so special
“This year, we want Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week to reach out to everyone in Scotland as we invite you to #TakeAStepForward and join us in celebrating the value and contribution of people with Down’s syndrome to Scottish life. We still have a lot to do in tackling discrimination and creating truly equal opportunities for everyone living with an extra chromosome.”
Today we made snack for everyone round the campfire.
We had some delicious pancakes which Val very kindly made for us. We had to remember or safety rules round the fire.
“The pancakes were yummy, I had one and some milk”
It’s been a warm day today and we have had lots of opportunities to keep hydrated while out in the garden.
We have had lots of fun in the garden this week with lovely spring sunshine coming out to play with us! Please remember to put sun cream on in the morning before nursery and a bottle of sunscreen in your child’s bag along with a hat. Please label them both.
