We have welcomed 2 new team members to Cart Mill this week – Linzi and Angela.
Linzi has come from working with the NHS in a Health Visiting team and brings the experience of working with families in the community to our family centre. Linzi is the new key worker for Fatima’s group. Welcome Linzi!
Angela has come from Hazeldene Family Centre and she brings the experience of working with children and families in a busy family centre to our team. Angela is our Senior Child Development Officer. Welcome Angela!
Our new stand arrived today for our water trough which meant our pouring experiments could take place off the ground. This was great, especially as the ground was so wet from all the rain. The children were able to measure their water in the jugs and pour it into different tubes to see which one would fill first.
Donations for Family Fun Day
Saturday 22nd June 11am – 2pm
The fun day is fast approaching and we are looking for donations of tombola items and raffle prizes – anything goes! We would also like any empty screw top wine bottles you have. We are planning a new stall for adults this year!
Please volunteer to help us on the day too – we need you!
Today the toddlers were getting creative making their own glittery works of art! They used glue to make a pattern on the paper and then added glitter to create sparkly pictures. We were delighted the sun came out which made the glitter very pretty and extra sparkly!
”Wow, look at my sparkly unicorn!”
The children were exploring different magnetic resources and what they stuck to.
We have discovered our wall is magnetic!
We also discovered we could collect the nuts and bolts using magnetic force!
This week in the literacy area we have been continuing to explore letters in the world around us. The children were invited to create letter shapes using some beautiful spring flowers,
“I made a T with sticks.”
We also made an alphabet matching game to help us explore what letters sound like.
We hammered the nails into the wood.
We wrote the letters all by ourselves.
We chose the pictures for each letter and stuck them onto the wood.
Finally we could play our game!
Today in the toddler room the children were making sticky pictures with glue and different coloured shapes. This gave them the opportunity to explore different shapes and discuss how many sides each shape has. The children were thinking about what they could use the shapes for in their pictures and of course enjoyed getting sticky fingers from the glue!
”Mine has a big funny nose!”
”Mind has small legs!”
Today in the toddler room we had fun making shortbread, waiting patiently for our turn to weigh, measure and mix the ingredients together.
We pressed down on the the dough and used a square and circle cookie cutter to make shapes, before we put them in the oven to bake yum yum.
Today the toddlers have created a home for dinosaurs.
They chose grass and sand for the dinosaurs to make foot prints in.
We thought pasta, pine cones, twigs and water would be good for the dinosaurs to eat and drink.
The children thought some of the dinosaurs were very big and scary when they roared …..
