Painting to Music!!!

Music and Art share similar principals such as pattern, rhythm, balance and emphasis.

Children were listening to the music then began to paint.

They were showing their emotions and thoughts through painting. At the same time they were demonstrating developmental fine and gross motor coordination, creative expression through visual art and production.

Different colours represent the children in terms of mood and energy, and they can use music to give them creative inspiration for future painting sessions.

“I made patterns with paint and I really enjoyed it.”

“Fireworks and cracking eggs, it was fast and dancey.”

“I can tap my fingers with a pompom and paint.”

“Colours makes me happy, Orange colour for Orange tangerine, green for cucumber and red for tomato.”

“It’s a Chinese dragon.”

“I am a rock star.”

Young Scientists

Over the past two days we have been running some experiments at Cart Mill. Our favourite one involved a raw egg. We took a raw egg in its hard shell and very carefully put it in a plastic jug then added a cup of vinegar. We watched the vinegar start to bubble and fizz before putting the jug on a shelf where we left it for a full day.
The next day we poured the vinegar out of the jug to leave just the egg. We then let the egg roll out of the jug and what a surprise we got, there was no egg shell! The egg felt soft and gooey and it bounced, how exciting! We were able to change the shape of the egg and bounce it on a table until someone squeezed it just a little bit too hard. Oops

It’s an egg!
It feels hard and smooth.
What does this smell like?
I can see some bubbles.
Catch the egg!
Where has the shell gone?
We can squash it…
We can bounce it…
We can squeeze it…
but not too hard!

Spring is in the air!!

Today the toddlers had great fun painting the flowers they made from salt dough yesterday.

The flowers were cooked and now look amazing thanks to the children adding some colour, glitter and personalising their own flower.

This created a good discussion about Spring and flowers starting to grow. We also discussed the different parts of a flower.
