Preparing for Daffodil tea!

As part of our intergenerational programme, we have some visitors coming next week from Bonnyton house to join us for some tea and crafts.

The children have been creating some of their own decorations to brighten up our family room for our special tea that we are having.

The children have been looking at vases of daffodils and using pencils to draw their own. They then re visited their pictures and added in some colour. This afternoon we selected some green and yellow materials to create collage daffodils!

”The stem of the flower is green”
”The petals of the flower are yellow”
”I’m going to make two so i can take one home”
”Daffodils don’t have any leaves”

Cart Mill Coffee Shop

‘Here is your chocolate cake. I hope you lilke it.’

Over the last few weeks the children have been very busy preparing to open their own coffee shop. A group of children visited Costa Coffee to explore the kinds of things we would need. We had a  tasting test to see what kind of tea we would like to sell, and decided on blackcurrant and peppermint along with coffee and everybody’s favourite hot chocolate!

The children also wanted to make some yummy cakes to sell. We made these from a variety of art and craft materials and we all agreed they looked good enough to eat!

We have had great fun this week visitng our coffee shop and taking on the different roles of customers and waiters. We have been  taking orders in our notebooks, and serving drinks and food to our friends.

‘I will make your coffee nice and hot. The machine has sugar in it.’
‘ That will be £1 please.’
‘ I will take my coffee away to work.’
‘Mmmmm yummy hot chocolate.’
‘Here is your cake sir.’
‘I would like the pink cake.’

“I’m here!”

The toddlers were signing in today using our new Self Registration Board.

The children  find their picture with their name on it and put it onto the board to sign themselves in and let everyone know “I’m here!”.

This is helping to develop early literacy skills with the children beginning to recognise their name.  It is also developing their independence.

The children are enjoying this experience in the morning/afternoon.
