Exploring properties of Ice!!

The children have been developing their observation skills through exploring blocks of melting ice outdoors. They discussed and investigated some of their findings about the properties of ice. They  also predicted how long it would take to melt the ice. They decided to experiment with different methods of how to make the ice melt.

Firstly they used cold water to make the ice melt and their second choice was using warm water to see if the ice would melt faster. The children were excited to see the ice melting and discover what letters were hiding inside.  Everyone was able to work cooperatively with their peers. The children have also been developing their vocabulary through touching the ice and describing the appearance of it, some of boys said it was  “smooth” and “slippery”.

“It makes a cracking sound when i put water in”
“Look the ice is getting smaller”
“I can see the letters coming out”

“It feels cold”
“There is more water in the tray now”.
