Maths Week Scotland

Last week we enjoyed a selection of different maths activities everyday as part of Maths Week. One of our first activities was to begin designing Braidbar Avenue! After looking at 3D objects and nets of different shapes, we started creating our own cube net to build houses for our own miniature street. It’s our plan to create some 3D models using clay as part of our learning about form in art to also be part of our street.

We also spoke about what jobs we’d like to do in the future and thought about what maths skills we will need to use. It made us realise how maths is really in every single job!

On Friday we loved showcasing the amazing games we had created for homework and spent time playing our own and others games. Leon and Arlo even made their own dice using their knowledge of a cubes net!

On Thursday we took our maths learning outside and spent time out in the playground looking for 3D objects and using natural materials to make a clock face for some time themed activities.

Empathy Educators

Primary 5 did an amazing job of teaching the primary 3s all about empathy and the importance of this skill last week. We spent time in class planning  our teaching input and follow up activities to carry out, thinking about what would be fun and meaningful for our P3 pupils. Some activities included creating posters, planning empathy dramas,  designing empathy comics and creating a ‘warm words’ mug! See some pictures of our teaching in action.

Homework W/C 01.10.19

Hi all, I hope everyone had a fantastic September Weekend.

Please find this weeks homework listed below.

Spelling –

No new spelling rule this week, so please catch up on any homework that was missed last week due to the September Weekend.

Maths –

Can you please continue working on and complete your maths games. These are due to be finished and brought in for Friday. There is also a SumDog competition on at the moment, so if you have finished your board game then feel free to play 10 minutes a night of this.

Empathy Educators –

Primary 5 did an amazing job of teaching the primary 3s all about empathy (pictures to follow!) We’ve also put up a huge empathy tree in our classroom which displays all of our class focuses. We also want to display some of our own empathetic acts on this tree. The plan is to have one empathetic per pupil displayed on the tree. There will be time to complete this in class, but keep eyes peeled for extra empathetic acts at home too!
