Fun and Laughter

We have had an exciting week in Primary 1. On Tuesday, Arlo’s mummy came in to see us and she brought her violin. We learned about the different parts of a violin and she played some songs for us. We had our first assembly on Friday. We talked about our learning journey since august and performed a song at the end. We really hope everyone enjoyed it! After this we went on a walk as it is Walk to School Week. We all tried our best to walk to school this week and we got a magnet and lots of stickers.

We would like to say a big thank you to the mums and dads, and to all of the staff who helped us this week.

Our busy week!

Saint Patrick’s Day

Miss Pope went a bit crazy on St. Patrick’s Day and was dressed in green from head to toe. Our class fairy Nixie lost her friend Paddy the Leprechaun but he left her some clues to find him. We went on a treasure hunt and we found Paddy at the end of a rainbow with his pot of gold.

Smoothies

We made strawberry and banana smoothies on Wednesday. We learned how to cut strawberries using the bridge method and we learned how to cut bananas using the claw method. We really enjoyed making the smoothies and they tasted delicious. We were very lucky to have so many mums and dads helping, thank you so much for joining us.

P4A Stories

The P4A pupils wrote their own Easter stories. They came into our class and read them to us. They were really good and we enjoyed hearing them and seeing the wonderful pictures.

Sport Relief Challenge

We took part in our Sport Relief Challenge today. We took part in 6 stations. We were gymnasts, runners, golfers, basketball players, footballers and tennis players. We had a fun afternoon and we are so happy that we could raise money for charity. The school has raised over £1000 already for this great cause. Thank you for your sponsorship.

World Book Week

This week was World Book Week. There were lots of events running in the school all week. On Monday, we got to start the travelling book. We were given the opening to a story and we had to add two sentences before we sent it to Primary Two. It went to every class in the school and we had a finished story by the end of the week. On Thursday we wrote a story about our favourite book. We wrote about Star Wars, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Harry Potter, Frozen and many other books. On Friday we dressed up as a character from the book we wrote about and we got to read a page from our favourite book to the class.

Rouken Glen

On Wednesday we went to Rouken Glen Park. We were met by Katy who told us all about how animals survive in winter. She then showed us how to make bird feeders and once these were done, we hung them on the trees in the woods.

Next we made shelters for the animals to keep them safe when they hibernate.

Then we got to feed the birds seeds (we learned that it is dangerous to give them bread) and see the waterfall which was very noisy.

At the end of our trip we got to play in the playground until it was time to go home. We had a great day. Thank you to the parents who came with us.

Becoming Responsible Citizens

We have been learning how to become responsible citizens in Primary One.

On Friday, we had a visit from ‘Bad Girl’ from Recycling Heroes. She taught us all how to be recycling heroes and by the end of the session we had taken down the menacing Rubbish Monsters. We had a lot of fun.

Today Andy from the SSPCA came to visit us and the Primary Twos. He told us all about the importance of caring for animals and what we should do if we see an animal that needs help. We all did really good listening and asked lots of questions at the end.

Numeracy and Maths

We have been learning lots of new things in maths since we arrived in Primary One. We really enjoy problem solving because we get to act out our strategies and work together to solve the problem. We have also been learning about adding three numbers, halving numbers and identifying right angles. Take a look at what we have learned so far this week.

Rainy Days

We are very excited to be learning about the weather as our IDL topic for term 3. We went outside after it had rained. We used our senses to feel the cold, to see and hear the raindrops drip from the roof, and touch the rain that was still on the benches. It was very cold outside so we couldn’t stay out for long. When we were back in the classroom, we made our own raindrops and we painted a picture of ourselves out in the rain. Do you like our work?

It’s a Party in Primary 1!

We have been so busy over the past few weeks in Primary One. We worked really hard every day to get ready for our nativity ‘It’s a Party’. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we did performing it. We would like to thank all of our families for their help and support. Here are some pictures in case you missed it.

We had our first cooking lesson. We made delicious and healthy sandwiches. We couldn’t wait to try them so we had to gobble them up straight away. Thank you to our mums and dads who came in to help us. Here are some pictures of our favourite moments.

We have been very lucky as we have been able to see two pantomimes. We went on a coach to see Peter Pan, which was very exciting. And today, the Hopscotch Theatre Company came to our school to give us a special performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. We loved both shows and we can’t wait to see another one when we are in Primary Two.

We have loved our first two terms in Primary One and we can’t wait to see what we will do in the next two terms. Thank you all for your continued support. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone in Primary 1 🙂

Our Wonderful Week!

We have had a fantastic week in Primary 1. On Wednesday, we were very excited to go on our first class trip in primary school. We would like to thank Carol from Giffnock Library for taking the time to read us some stories. We would also like to thank Miss Patterson, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Crosbie and Mr Uddin for taking the time to come with us. We also had a special visit from the Zoo Lab on Friday. Ross from Zoo Lab brought in his animals to show us. We got to see and touch a snail, a snake, a cockroach, a rat and a millipede. We had a lot of fun and learned some interesting facts about all of the different animals. Thank you for coming in to see us Ross.
