Welcome to our class and our Hillview community display.
At the beginning of the term we all created a house that told others about us. We looked at the houses and talked about the clues that told us about each other.
Kayla made sure she included pictures of her dogs because she loves them she makes sure she looks after them. Well done Kayla, you spent a long time making sure your house was just right and told us all about you.
We have been enjoying Big Writing this term and producing fantastic informative writing linked to our science topic and reading.
We have been researching the lifecycle of honeybees and finding out about food chains. We have been highlighting and making notes which include important information and key vocabulary.
We have then used our notes to help us create fascinating fact files and interesting reports.
Already we have had a number of star writers although Mrs Murdoch has found it hard to choose only 2 each week.
Lucie and Nathan both wrote informative reports about Honeybees. They included important information and key vocabulary.
We are all working hard on our spelling and enjoy during active spelling tasks in class and in P.E.
We are all making good progress and aiming to get to the top of our spelling bee chart.
Ryan got 10 spelling bee points for completing lots of active spelling tasks in class and Olivia has buzzed into the lead for writing fantastic and interesting sentences.
As part of maths week last week, Primary 3 took part in a 2D shape and 3D object hunt. The squares used tally marks to record the data and the triangles displayed the information by using chalk to draw barcharts on the playground. We liked being outside and observing 2D shapes and 3D objects out in the environment.
‘The basketball is a sphere and the bench is a cuboid’ Maisie
Whilst the shape hunt was underway, the squares applied their learning about following directions and planned routes around the playground using right and left turns.
‘I got better at estimating how far distances were. I estimated 24 steps from the bottom of the road to the top and it was 26!’ Kenzie
This term our topic is a novel study. We are reading the Owl who was afraid of the dark. So far we heave read one chapter. The first chapter was called ‘Dark is exciting’. Plop is the main character in the story and he is scared of the dark. In the story Plop met a boy who said that dark was exciting because of fireworks in the sky. This inspired us to make our own firework pictures. We did this by creating scratch art fireworks. Kai said that all of the colors that came through were really beautiful.
In Term 2 we have had a football coach on a Friday for PE. This has been great fun. We have been leaning lots of ball skills and we can then put this into practise as we always play a game of football at the end of each lesson. Some boys and girls had never played football before, and they were surprised by how much they enjoyed it!
We learnt how to make a fruit salad in the most exciting way. First we discussed what fruit we would need, and Miss Kidson went to the shop and bought it. Then it was time to make the fruit salad. We had to wash our hands, and some of the fruit. We didn’t wash the bananas because they have a skin which we don’t eat! We then had to chop the bananas, strawberries and apples into little pieces. After that we put the fruit into a bowl, added some tropical juice and mixed it. After this Miss Kidson scooped the fruit salad into tubs for us to taste. It was lovely. Some of the boys and girls in primary 2 had never tasted some of the fruits before.
Some of us even had two tubs of the fruit salad. It was so yummy!
Mrs Boag has been teaching us the colours in French. As it is now Autumn we talked about the colours of the Autumn leaves. We learnt the words for the colours in French. We also learnt a song which helps us remember the colours. We wrote the words on leaves and made a tree display. Some of the primary two children can remember the colours and were able to teach Miss Kidson.
We like doing PE in class. We have been using the Go Noodle website to practise our dance moves. We are learning about spatial awareness and how to be safe while exercising. Our favourite video is Pop See Ko. We now know all of the words as well as all of the dance moves. We have also been doing Cosmic Kids Yoga in class. It makes us really relaxed and most of us feel quite sleepy after it.
We are enjoying practising our spelling words in primary two so far. Each week we have a different spelling sound. Some of our sounds have been, ‘ar’ ‘qu’ ‘th’ ‘ch’ ‘ng’ and ‘sh’. On the third week we revise our last two sets of spelling words. When we are practising we write our words using bubble writing, and rainbow writing. We also write our words on whiteboards and use play-doh to make the words. This helps us to remember how to spell the words.
Ross – “I like spelling my words out of play-doh because play-doh is squashy.”
Olivia – “I like rainbow writing because it’s fun.”
Alyssa – “I like doing bubble writing because I like drawing and colouring.”
Ryan – “I like writing on my whiteboard because I like the thick and thin whiteboard pens and the whiteboard rubbers.”
