Primary 4 studies lots of painting by L.S. Lowry. We noticed the colours he likes to use, the style of the people and the buildings and that he likes railings, streetlamps, railways and electricity lines. These are our townscapes in the style of Lowry, we think he would like them!
Ross has really enjoyed learning about honeybees. So much so,that he went home and made a fantastic bee model using recyclable materials! We’re all looking forward to hearing how you made it. Well done Ross.
In science, we have been learning about honeybees. We researched facts about honeybees and found out about how they work together to build their hives.
We realised that the cells within the honeycombs are hexagon shaped. We used bubblewrap and cardboard to create a printing tool. We then worked in pairs to print our own hives.
We also looked at photos of honeybees and identified the different shapes we could use to draw them. We then stuck our bees onto our printed hives. We were very pleased with the results.
Welcome to our class and our Hillview community display.
At the beginning of the term we all created a house that told others about us. We looked at the houses and talked about the clues that told us about each other.
Kayla made sure she included pictures of her dogs because she loves them she makes sure she looks after them. Well done Kayla, you spent a long time making sure your house was just right and told us all about you.
This term our topic is a novel study. We are reading the Owl who was afraid of the dark. So far we heave read one chapter. The first chapter was called ‘Dark is exciting’. Plop is the main character in the story and he is scared of the dark. In the story Plop met a boy who said that dark was exciting because of fireworks in the sky. This inspired us to make our own firework pictures. We did this by creating scratch art fireworks. Kai said that all of the colors that came through were really beautiful.
We have been using the theme of weather to inspire our art work. We listened to songs about the rain and designed our painted umbrellas. We discovered that if you add white to any colour then that colour will gradually become lighter.
We created these beautiful collage umbrellas by selecting a variety of different materials. We made patterns with our chosen materials and designed our own patterned wellington boots.
P.1b have been learning about people who help us in school. We interviewed Elaine ,the cook, Mrs Gaught from the office, Mrs Rennie the P.S.A and Gerry the lollipop man. We used our listening skills to hear all about their jobs.
We observed them carefully to help us to draw very good pictures of all the people who help us. Here is Elaine ,the cook.
We have had a great first week in P2. We drew portraits of ourselves. We tried really hard to make our portraits look real. We used pink and white paper to make our mouths and teeth. We then used glue to stick our mouths on. Finally we used a black felt pen to go over all of the detail.
Now our faces are on the wall for everyone to see!
