This week we started looking at instructions as part of our writing. To do this we played board games in groups and wrote down a set of instructions explaining what resources we needed and how to play the game. Later we changed groups and used the instructions left for us to try and play the next game, then we left the group feedback on their instructions using our success criteria.
“I learned how to write instructions. It was really fun playing the games and writing instructions.” – Kenzie
In Primary 5a we have been learning about Pop Art and Andy Warhol as part of our Art lessons. We started by finding out about his life and work, before looking at pieces of his artwork to identify his style e.g. repetition and his use of colour. Using what we learnt about his style we then started to create our own pieces of art.
“We got to make our artwork using things that we see every day or people that everyone knows. I liked it a lot” – Adrian
Over the last few weeks we have been working to improve our ability to select ideas for a story and to organise them in a way that allows us to create an engaging story. As part of this we all entered the BBC’s ‘500 Words’ competition. Here we are with our certificates.
On Wednesday afternoon we attended a ‘Generation Science’ event, where we continued our work on Sound, Vibrations and Waves that we have been doing in class. We got to take part in lots of great activities and experiments.
“I thought it was really fun, and the people made us laugh. I learnt about vibrations and how sound gets to the person” – Paige
Over the last two weeks the two primary 5 classes have been learning the song ‘Highland Cathedral’ which today we performed in front of the rest of the school and parents at the Tartan Assembly.
“I felt very proud when we were performing Highland Cathedral on the stage” – Olivia
“I was so excited and I think everyone did very well” – Lily
“At first I was a bit embarrassed but when we started to sing I enjoyed it!” – Mia
“The performances from each class were really good.” – George
“The classes worked incredibly hard over the last two weeks to learn the words and music to Highland Cathedral – well done to everyone!” – Mr Edge
Today the SSPCA came to visit our school. In our class, Amy who works for them came to talk to us about the work that the SSPCA does. We learned how they rescue animals who have been abandoned or have not been cared for properly, and how the SSPCA tries to find them a new home. We then played a game which taught us about different animals that you might find in Scotland and around the world.
Over the last few weeks we have been developing our ball control skills through different tennis related activities. Today we were progressing those skills by playing rally games with a partner on a small tennis court. This required us to use our ball control and movement skills, as well as polishing our forehand stroke.
Today we were learning why different groups of people in society were important in the campaign to abolish the slave trade. To achieve this we split into groups and looked at information on our assigned group. Then we discussed, using our teamworking skills, which tactics we thought would be the most efffective for our group to use.
