Science – IDL – Food Chains

For part of our science topic we made two posters. This linked with our literacy work and also our expressive arts work.

One was a food chain process . We researched information using the internet and made notes about the animals in our food chain. We used scientific vocabulary to create a food chain process.

We also used our design skills to create a food chain collage using a range of media. It was a really interesting topic  and we learned a lot about animals and their habitats.  It was really fun and they turned out amazing and everyone had fun.

Lewis – I liked the art part and I really enjoyed it.

Adrian – I liked the art when I made my Jungle food chain.

Connor-I liked the art food chain because it makes it look 3D and it was cool.

Garden Party 2nd June

Garden party

The fundraising group organised a Garden Party in Springhill and Auchenback primary school playground to raise funds to buy a Solar Dome and set up a Mindfulness Garden . It was on Friday 2nd June 2017 at 2:30- 4:30pm.

First the fundraising group was helping set up the stalls. Once the garden party had started all the people helping went to their stalls. After everyone went to their stalls the parents came to pick the children up.

There were lots of stalls here:-  coconut shy, archery, crazy golf, African stall, flower stall, raffle, face paints, wheel of fortune, bake sale, candy floss, bouncy castle, fire engine, drinks maker, bouncy slide, duck derby, hook a duck, chocolate tombola, beat the goalie, tin o' beans  and a tea room. Our class was in charge of the bouncy slides . We made posters in ICT to advertise our stall.

Emily  – It was fun to help set up and go round all the stalls.

Mia – the stalls were really good and we had lots of fun.

Connor – I enjoyed helping and going round all the stalls . I especially liked the bouncy slide.

Lewis – I enjoyed the bouncy slide and Miss Graeme’s brownies.

It was a great day the sun was out and we had lots of fun and hopefully raised lots of money. Thanks to everyone who helped us organise the Garden Party.

In literacy we wrote an invitation to the Garden Party.

Health and wellbeing – Expressive Art

On Thursday 23rd February the whole school took part in a Danceathon. Miss Graham in P6b organised for a dance coach called Natalie to come and give dance lessons to the P4-7. We learned choreography to September from the movie Trolls.  We also went to the music room and danced to Just Dance. Some people dressed in dance gear.

We then performed in front of parents and friends who came to watch at the end of the day we also danced to a few Just Dance tracks and the P1-3 joined us.

Kirstie – The Danceathon was something different. It was really fun.

George  – It was lots of fun and it helped to keep us fit.

Olivia  – It was very entertaining and is a good way to keep fit.

Expressive Arts -P6 / P3 Assembly -The chocolate room

We worked collaboratively with P3 on creating props and artwork for our joint assembly.  We looked at images of the chocolate room from the movies based on  the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We had been learning about Roald Dahl  when celebrating 100 years since his birth. We thought about colour and form then created our own paintings.

P3 chose their 3 favourites which we used during our class assembly.

Thomas – I made my chocolate room nice and colourful and was really happy it was chosen.

George – My chocolate room was designed to look like the one in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.

Kirstie – My chocolate room came  partly from the movie version and some of my own ideas.

RME Assembly

Over the last few weeks we have been learning about celebrations in different religions. To do this we looked at weddings and the various aspects of these celebrations in Christianity, Islam and Judaism. We tied our learning in RME to other curricular areas e.g. Technologies where we designed and built window frames.

We also used Weddings as our topic for our work in Expressive Arts. As part of this, with Primary 2 we turned our frames into stained glass windows just like you might see in a cathedral.

We then learned the song ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift and prepared and performed a drama of a Christian Wedding at our learning and teaching assembly.

“It was really good fun and amazing!” – Emily

“I really enjoyed preparing and performing the drama of a Christian wedding.” – Lewis

Artist Study: Andy Warhol

Emily and Paige
Emily and Paige

In Primary 5a we have been learning about Pop Art and Andy Warhol as part of our Art lessons. We started by finding out about his life and work, before looking at pieces of his artwork to identify his style e.g. repetition and his use of colour. Using what we learnt about his style we then started to create our own pieces of art.

“We got to make our artwork using things that we see every day or people that everyone knows. I liked it a lot” – Adrian
