Charcoal Bottle Art

P7b were working on charcoal and chalk bottle art. We watched a video about ellipses and shading a bottle to show light and shade. Every one enjoyed this activity because we learned some new drawing skills. We think that our bottles are great!

Handball

For P.E.  we had a handball session, the coach was called Michael. He told us the rules of handball and some techniques like short passing is harder to intercept and you can only take three steps with the ball. Everyone enjoyed it and I had a broken collarbone so I was the referee.

Boat Building

We worked in groups to make boats. Our boats had to be able to float and carry cargo. We collected recycled materials and worked in partners to make our boats. We made our boats, tested them and made improvements. Everyone’s boats floated and carried some weight. We presented our boats to the class.

Life in Victorian times

We have been learning about life in Victorian times. We have been learning about what life was like for children during Queen Victoria’s reign.

We have researched websites and listened to audio clips of the different jobs that young children had to do.

We have investigated the difference between life today and Victorian life  -comparing jobs, transport, the landscape and buildings by studying pictures of modern day and Victorian times.

We used this information to write a balanced argument giving reasons for and against. We tried to use appropriate vocabulary and a range of punctuation.

Would I have liked to live in Victorian times ?

L.I – I am learning to create a balanced argument.

The first point in favour of this argument that I would like to make is I would have liked to have lived in Victorian times because there were nice clothes and no school.

Secondly I would have liked living in Victorian times because I could learn about Queen Victoria and about Victorian times and I could have visited the Great Exhibition in 1851.

However against this argument I wouldn’t like to live in Victorian times because there were no cars and no electricity things that we have in modern times.

In support of this, today there is lots of electronic stuff and I really enjoy playing my Xbox when I get home and they wouldn’t have had it in Victorian times.

To conclude I feel that I would prefer to live in modern times because in Victorian times there were no cars and no electricity and no Xbox’s so I wouldn’t have liked to live in Victorian times.

National Poetry Day – Light and Dark

We linked out Literacy with Social studies by writing poems for National Poetry day based upon our visit to the Scottish Parliament building.

We tries to use similes and alliterations in our poems to make them more effective.

Look. What can you see?

I see walls white as snow

With pools glistening with a glow.

I see glittering glass with sights that will last.

Before we got inside I took a breath and let out a blow.

I see shimmering, shining security with smiling guards.

We got out and let out a gasp.

I see kind people smiling at me

I hoped it would last.

I see shiny, smooth stone in the light.

It was such wonderful sight.

I see wondrous wood.

With glittering glass, it felt right.

The Scottish Parliament

Is where we went.

With sights so wonderful you will never imagine

That’s why we went.

Solar System – Sharing our knowledge

We have been learning about Space in Science.

We linked our learning with Technologies and used a search engine to research information with our partners.

We then worked collaboratively to produce PowerPoint presentations in ICT.

We presented our PowerPoint’s to the P3/2 class as we are working jointly with them on a Science assembly.

Here is the presentation produced by Georgia and Aidan. We thought about our young audience and made sure that we used child friendly language in our presentations.

Primary 3/2 very were good at answering the quiz questions and were able to remember some of the facts that they learned.
