remember things.<\/p>\n<p id=\"_jFWJrImCYHF2Iu\" dir=\"ltr\">A person with an ASD may have difficulties with:<\/p>\n<ul id=\"_yg0cgdOLTltD6B\">\n<li id=\"_B7ilBKV94kdxPo\">processing information,<\/li>\n<li id=\"_kSjXbxhsBtEgMi\">predicting the consequences of an action (if I do this, what will happen next?),<\/li>\n<li id=\"_xYwl3uJd0EzHua\">understanding the concept of time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"_75qWc6GOGBGMsu\" dir=\"ltr\">Many of us use certain strategies to help organise our day and prioritise tasks. For example, we might make a list or write things on a calendar.<\/p>\n<p id=\"_RWHP9dqC6thIZ7\" dir=\"ltr\">These strategies are also effective for people with ASD, especially if they&#8217;re used consistently by everyone who may support a person.<\/p>\n<p id=\"_oMVujj4g8UkiI5\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.autism.org.uk\/visualsupports\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer\">Visual supports<\/a> can take the form of:<\/p>\n<ul id=\"_SuxbZ3FpZCpFxr\">\n<li id=\"_1BBQvgDgB7J6u2\">pictures,<\/li>\n<li id=\"_YVu1T3zntbZy8f\">written lists,<\/li>\n<li id=\"_6aWRwgfajuDiPI\">calendars<\/li>\n<li id=\"_HxtXRoCKgBhD7K\">real objects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"_IQwbYh8xyK1k3B\" dir=\"ltr\">All be good ways of helping people with an ASD to understand what is going to happen, when it should happen.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p id=\"_PmCQKMMJtONgjl\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong><span id=\"ms-rterangecursor-start\"><\/span>Anxiety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"_0lsZewwmtcMxqO\" dir=\"ltr\">Many children require knowledge of what is happening next, as the unknown cause\u2019s anxiety.<\/p>\n<p id=\"_pFZMsbFJBgDSVf\" dir=\"ltr\">Even if the pattern\/sequence of an activity never changes, the child is not always able to apply prior knowledge.<\/p>\n<p id=\"_qUm0bZg6GzZ8WJ\" dir=\"ltr\">A timetable\/schedule may be to too much for some children and too many visuals could lead to increased anxiety as they foresee everything that they need to do!<\/p>\n<p id=\"_E428JzOcKg8ikR\" dir=\"ltr\">In these situations, now and next cards can support.
