Yesterday, some of our pupils were treated to a thrilling introduction to motorcycle riding. Pupils were briefed in safety procedures, protective clothing requirements, requirements of the theory and practical tests as well as motorcycle maintenance. They then had an opportunity to ride motorcycles in a safe, controlled environment where they learned how to control and manoeuvre the bikes. All pupils had an opportunity to experience bikes with automatic and manual gears. All pupils enjoyed the day and some have already expressed an interest in returning for further training. We would like to thank all of the staff at Harley’s Rider Training in East Kilbride.
Earlier in the session we reported our S3 business management students winning first place in the Scottish Schools Stock Market Challenge. Since then the programme has been nominated for a Scottish Financial Services Award. In preparation for the awards ceremony a video, featuring our very own talented business management pupils, was produced and can be viewed <here>. The BICT department is delighted to see our pupils achieve so well and will continue to offer this meaningful and relevant experience to our learners.
The national televised Pride of Britain Awards celebrate the achievements of truly remarkable people. The winners come from all walks of life and from all age groups, but they have one thing in common, they inspire others. At Williamwood we would like to acknowledge the achievements of our pupils in a ‘Pride of Williamwood’ section on the Pupil Support website. Each month nominations will be submitted by staff, parents, pupils or the wider community. The award will not be based on academic performance; its purpose is to recognise achievement beyond the purely academic. Please visit the Pupil Support page (go first to ‘Departments’) to see our first nominees.
The next meeting of Williamwood High School Parent Council is at 7pm on Monday 1st October 2012.
