The NASA Space Week event allowed pupils across S3 to design an original living quarter within their space shuttle, demonstrating their innovative use of STEM knowledge. Several candidates competed and the designs are now displayed proudly in the Science Department. The lucky 3: Adam , Austin and Charlie visited the University of the West of Scotland to meet and work alongside NASA astronaut Steve Swanson. Adam’s team qualified for the final but unfortunately did not win the overall competition. The pupils were so engaged the whole week and really enjoyed this experience. The week-long event also allowed them to gain knowledge of, and develop skills in areas such as:
- NASA leadership, team building and personal development skills
- About biomedical research
- How space exploration benefits life on earth
- What the space environment feels like (from those who have been)
- Scientific research, experiments and innovation – on earth and in space.
