MODERN APPRENTICE OPPORTUNITY – Medical Laboratory Asistant

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital would like to invite candidates who meet the selection criteria of 2 Highers (or equivalent) in Chemistry AND Biology or an NC in a Science Subject (SQF Level 6) to attend an information session about the Modern Apprenticeship Medical Laboratory Assistant role on Wednesday 16 November.

It is anticipated that these vacancies will open for application no later than week commencing 14th November 2016.  Attendance is not mandatory for applicants and is not part of the selection process, however, places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Confirmation of slots will be allocated no later than 12 Noon on Friday 11th November.  This will be an evening event and a parent or carer is welcome to accompany you.  Please email modern.apprentice@ggc.scot.nhs.uk to request a place and advise when requesting if you require one or two places and confirm the level and details of the qualification(s) that you hold.

PARKING

Parents are reminded that they may drop pupils off in the school car park in the morning using the drop off zone on the left hand side of the car park.  Parents are also welcome to stop in the bus lane when dropping pupils in the morning, but should not use the bus lane in the afternoon as it is required for school buses.  Please avoid using Newford Grove for dropping off or picking up pupils.

S2 NETBALL

S2 netball training on Tuesday 1st November is cancelled as the S1 team are playing a match against Belmont Academy. You are more than welcome to come along and support the S1 team.  Please see Mr Allan or Miss McLaughlin for more information.

S3 – S6 NETBALL

Netball training for girls in S3 – S6 will be on Tuesday 1 November, rather than Wednesday 2 November. Can all players in these year groups, existing and new, please attend. That includes anyone who may have missed training on a Wednesday up until this point. There are school teams for all year groups and an East Renfrewshire league that will be starting in January 2017. There are numerous opportunities for you to represent the school and we would be delighted to see all of our netballers back on Tuesday. If you cannot attend please see Mr Allan, Miss McLaughlin, Miss McNally or Miss McCreaddie.

MORGAN STANLEY GLASGOW: TECHNOLOGY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME 2017

This is a four-year programme beginning September 2017, during which students are supported to attain a degree within BSc (Hons) IT Management for Business, in order to provide theoretical and practical management skills within the IT environment, as well as insight into the financial world.

The degree course has been granted professional accreditation – Awarded Tech Industry Gold by Tech Partnership. Tech Industry Gold degrees are defined by employers to provide students with the technical, business and interpersonal skills that place them in high demand in the technology sector.
Minimum criteria for the programme is 4 Higher Grades at BBBB, including Computing or Maths, plus English.

MORGAN STANLEY GLASGOW: FINANCE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME 2017

This is a three-year programme beginning September 2017, during which students are supported through the ACCA Foundation Diploma qualification, whilst developing both their technical and soft skills within a work environment. 

 The ACCA qualification provides students with practical accounting and financial skills while developing their grasp of business.  It is designed to give students the opportunity to learn the theory of accounting while putting it into practice too.
Minimum criteria for the programme is 4 Higher Grades at BBBC (1 sitting), or 4 Higher Grades at BBBB (2 sittings), including Mathematics and English. Mathematics must be at a grade B minimum.

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES

A range of work experience opportunities are currently available with TUV SUD Ltd based in Bath Street Glasgow.

They can provide experience in roles shadowing their Mechanical or Electrical Building Services Engineers, Sustainability Consultant or CAD Technician.  All these roles are in the context of the built environment and construction industry, most suited to students interested in subjects such as technical studies, physics, maths and IT.

ACTIVE GIRLS EVENT

On Friday 28 October, all female pupils in S1, S2 and S3 will be involved in an event as part of the Sport Scotland Active Girls initiative.  Pupils will be involved at the following times:
S2 Pupils      Periods 1, 2 & 6
S1 Pupils      Periods 3, 4 & 6
S3 Pupils      Periods 5 & 6
Pupils should arrive to school in full uniform and bring equipment / resources for all classes as normal. Standard, indoor PE kit is all that is required for participation in the event.
