This is an amazing opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to earn whilst they learn and commit two years to gaining recognised qualifications and experience and taking home a great salary. As a company, Scottish Canals spend millions of pounds every year on things as wide ranging from stationery to maintaining and upgrading the Falkirk Wheel, and the way in which we decide the best way to spend that money is through a process called procurement.
In return for hard work and dedication, you will earn a salary of just over £16,000 and gain an SVQ level 3 in Procurement and CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) Level 2. You will sit 5 exams over the two years and spend on average one day per week ‘doing college’ at City of Glasgow College in an online environment. For the rest of the time you will be an active and important member of the Procurement function, working alongside the Procurement Manager who will mentor and develop you to ensure you add real value to the company.
In this job you will be involved with the analysis of how money is spent to determine what new contracts are needed as well as helping with the administration of existing contracts. You will work with staff from across the country and other interested parties to help develop tender and contract documents as well as assisting in the evaluation and award of new contracts that are vital to the company Your training will start with a few weeks getting bedded in to the company and learning some commonly used terms and most importantly, what the procurement function actually does! You will then be enrolled in City of Glasgow College to undertake a SVQ level 3 which will take between 12 and 15 months. Once this is complete we will use the remaining time to enhance your qualification to CIPS level 2 in year 2. Although the college provides the coursework and exams, most learning is completed through online modules so you will need to be self-motivated and have great time management to ensure you meet the targets set. The learning isn’t just at College, however, and you will be learning more daily throughout shadowing and assisting the Procurement Manager. He will get you involved in real tasks, growing with complexity throughout your time with us. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a long and rewarding career in Procurement.
