Holocaust Memorial Night

On Thursday 22 January, Williamwood held its first ever Holocaust Memorial Day evening. The event was hosted and organised by S6 pupils and Lessons from Auschwitz Ambassadors, Daniel and Cara.  It also featured guest speakers Bill Clark, a Holocaust Educational Trust educator, and Bob Kutner, a Holocaust survivor.  Cara and Daniel decided that they wanted to organise this event after they took part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project with the Holocaust Educational Trust.  The evening was thought provoking and was well attended by almost 150 people, with every one feeling inspired after hearing Bob’s incredible story.  More photos can be viewed here.

Malawi Progress Update

When the Malawi group visited Encongolweni, they were involved in helping to build a new nursery.  This project was undertaken as the nursery was destroyed in storms and children were being educated under a tree, or not at all.  Our pupils raised £11,000 to help with this project.  Attendance at nursery is vital as children are then able to access the Mary’s Meals kitchen which ensures that they are guaranteed to receive one meal a day.  We have now received an update on the progress of the nursery which can be viewed here.
