Winter Fashion Show

The S6 prom committee are hosting a Winter Fashion Show on Friday 12 December from 7-10pm to raise money for their prom next year.  Tickets are £5 and there will also be hair and beauty stalls, a raffle and a bar on offer.  Tickets can be purchased from Miss Moir in the BICT department.

Armistice Day Service

On Tuesday 11 November Williamwood held its annual Armistice Day service.  The service included a minute silence, a reading from a member of the school’s Chaplaincy team, Jeanne Roddick, and bagpipes being played by S4 pupil Kyle.  A wreath of poppies was laid by our Head Boy Andrew Cowden and Head Girl Aurora McKinlay on a display created by the S2 craft club with contributions from the History and Modern languages departments and the local community.

National 5 Information Evening

On Tuesday 11 November Williamwood held an information evening for parents/carers of pupils sitting the new National 5 courses.  Teachers made a series of 20 minute presentations on their own subject and gave advice on the best way parents/carers could assist and support their child’s studies for the new exams.   This was an informative evening for all who attended.

S1 Sports Achievements

Congratulations to Jennie (S1) who won both the Minor Girls (under 13s) and Cadet Girls (Under 15s) titles at the North Ayrshire Table Tennis Open 2014 which was held at St. Matthew’s Academy, Saltcoats.   Over 70 junior players from all over Scotland competed.   Congratulations Jennie!

Parent Council AGM – 17 November 2014

On Monday 17 November, the Annual General Meeting of the Parent Council will be taking place in the school from 7pm-9pm with refreshments available. All parents and carers are welcome to attend to find out more about the role of the Parent Council and their achievements and contributions this year. Young Singer of the Year 2014

On Wednesday 5 November, Williamwood’s Performing Arts faculty held its annual Young Singer of the Year competition.   The standard of entrants was fantastic and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.  The level of pupil talent was exceptional.  Congratulations to Stephen (S3) who won the Juinor award and the runner up Erin (S3).  The senior awards was won by Rachel (S5) and the runner up was Sophie (S6).  An overall Rising Star award was given to Caitlin (S1).  Well done!

S6 Pupils Visit Auschwitz

Congratulations to S6 pupils, Daniel Lawrie and Cara Marinelli, who were selected to take part in the Lessons from Auschwitz project last month.  This is in conjunction with the Holocaust Educational Trust.   It is a four-part course which explores the universal lessons of the Holocaust and its relevance for today.   As part of the course, Daniel and Cara visited Auschwitz in Poland on Tuesday 9 October.  They attended a memorial service for the 6 million people that lost their lives during the Holocaust.

Parent Council AGM – 17 November 2014

On Monday 17 November, the Annual General Meeting of the Parent Council will be taking place in the school from 7pm-9pm.  All parents and carers are welcome to attend to find out more about the role of the Parent Council and their achievements and contribtions this year.  The Parent Council plays an important and active role in the life of Williamwood and if you are interested in joining the Parent Council, more information can be found on the Parent Council pages on the school website.  The annual report for 2013/2014 will also be issued soon.

East Dunbartonshire Chess Tournement

On Sunday 2 November, Finlay Noble, Joseph Teaz and Angus Brown in S2 participated in the East Dunbartonshire Chess Tournement in Milngavie.  The boys were faced with a huge challenge as they were playing other school teams of all ages and did extremely well to win one round during the tournament.   It was the first time they felt the pressure of playing under timed conditions and the boys are keen to increase their training and participate in future competitions.
