S1 Freshers’ Fair

On Friday afternoon, pupils in S1 attended the annual Freshers’ Fair in The Street. Pupils had the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of clubs and activities available to them at Williamwood and they enjoyed chatting with senior pupils who assisted them in signing up.  All clubs are due to start next week.

S1 Freshers’ Fair

At the Freshers’ Fair on Friday 22 August, three S2 boys from the chess club expertly and enthusiastically promoted the club to the new S1 pupils. All of the members of the chess club made posters but Finlay, Joseph and Andrew volunteered to manage a stall at the fair and advertise the club that they look forward to every Wednesday after school. They set up two chess boards with a ‘killer move’ competition which attracted lots of keen S1 players and some staff to the table to take part. They also provided prizes for anyone who could find the move. The Chess Club runs after school on a Wednesday from 2.45pm-3.45pm in PS6 and anyone pupils who are interested can attend.

S6 Pupil Selected for Glasgow Warriors Rugby Team

Congratulations to Scott (S6) who has been selected for the U17 Glasgow Warriors rugby team. Scott played his first match on Friday 24 August against Ulster. Scott also plays for the Glasgow Hutcheson Aloysians who recently played an exhibition match at Ibrox as a part of the Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens. Scott trains daily and is hoping to pursue a career in rugby. We wish him well in his endeavours and congratulate him on a fantastic achievement.

S6 Pupils Play Rugby Sevens at Ibrox Stadium during the Commonwealth Games

Thomas and Scott in S6 play Rugby Sevens for Glasgow Hutcheson Aloysians along with a number of ex-Williamwood pupils. Their team successfully made it to the final which was played at Scotstoun, in front of 10,000 spectators, at the end of June against Dundee High School. After a competitive match, the GHA lost the final 12-5 although the boys played incredibly well. As a reward for reaching the final stages of the competition, the GHA team also played an exhibition match against Dundee High School at Ibrox Stadium as a part of the Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens on Sunday 27 July. The result for this 10 minute match was 7-7 in front of a packed stadium of 45,000 spectators, although the GHA won as they scored the first try. Both Thomas and Scott felt that this was an amazing opportunity and over-whelming experience. Congratulations to both current Williamwood pupils as well as ex-pupils in this amazing achievement.
