Second jazz festival is a big success

Last night Williamwood held its annual Jazz Festival, the performing arts department’s first concert of the school year. This event featured outstanding performances from the Big Band, the Jazz Combo and several vocal groups including the newly formed Senior Boys. The concert also showcased Alex Renfrew (S6) and Eilidh Radcliffe (S6), two very talented vocal soloists. Parents and friends of the school who attended experienced a unique and relaxed vibe, which reflected the atmosphere of a real jazz club. The proceeds of this event will go to Nordoff-Robbins, a music therapy charity based in Glasgow. Next year’s event is definitely not to be missed!

STEM Fair attracts 1,000

Yesterday more than 1,000 pupils, parents and teachers attended Williamwood’s biennial STEM fair to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This excellent event, which was organised for P6/P7 and S1/S2 pupils, included a ‘design a robot’ competition and a very entertaining presentation (Disgusting Digestion) from the Glasgow Science Centre. Other attractions included a van der graaf generator, 3-D printer, organ dissections, maths relays and a wide range of exciting exhibits and practical activities. This  hugely successful evening was enjoyed by all who attended. Williamwood would like to thank everyone who contributed to another great STEM event. <gallery>
