Former pupil’s music success

John Roberts, who left Williamwood four years ago to study oboe at the Royal College of Music in London, has just been appointed Principal Oboe of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. This is a remarkable achievement for such a young man and he is the youngest ever British oboe player to be appointed to such a prominent position. This year John has also appeared as guest Principal Oboe with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Scottish Opera Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
