Sister Lucy Kurien, who is from India, met yesterday with S6 pupils to discuss a possible MAHER charity project for Williamwood. MAHER, which Sister Lucy founded in 1997, is a charity which provides shelter and support to destitute women and children. To date the organisation has helped 1,832 children and 1,974 women and it currently houses nearly 1,000 women and children. The S6 pupils also enjoyed an excellent contribution from Gauss, a young man who has benefitted greatly from the practical support MAHER provides; Gauss performed a traditional Indian dance in traditional dress. The school donated £500 towards MAHER and hopes to donate more in the future.
