Microbiology taster session at the University of Glasgow

Seventeen of the new Higher Biology pupils took part in a microbiology taster session at the University of Glasgow. The pupils dealt with ”blood’ and ”stool” samples taken from patients suffering from a range of bacterial and viral infections including malaria, leishmaniasis, sleeping sickness, e-coli and salmonella. They used complex laboratory techniques to find out the condition each patient was suffering so that the appropriate treatment could be administered. All enjoyed the experience and were commended by the university staff for there excellent behaviour, interesting questions and quality responses to the problems set.
