Stock market win!

Business management students proved to be a hit on the stock market by finishing top of the leader board in two investment challenges. Competing against 27 other schools, the team was first tasked with investing over £500,000 in a virtual stock market with the aim of maximising its portfolio by the end of a week of  trading. The Williamwood team took first place and the top performing traders were invited to BNP Parabis’ headquarters in Glasgow to compete in what was a close battle, with pupils from Boclair Academy. The team was presented with the Investment Challenge trophy and £500 for the school. Congratulations to Jack, Stuart, Lucy, Jonathan, Ayesha and Halina on their excellent success.

Microbiology taster session at the University of Glasgow

Seventeen of the new Higher Biology pupils took part in a microbiology taster session at the University of Glasgow. The pupils dealt with ”blood’ and ”stool” samples taken from patients suffering from a range of bacterial and viral infections including malaria, leishmaniasis, sleeping sickness, e-coli and salmonella. They used complex laboratory techniques to find out the condition each patient was suffering so that the appropriate treatment could be administered. All enjoyed the experience and were commended by the university staff for there excellent behaviour, interesting questions and quality responses to the problems set.

Williamwood girls make a first time splash at the Scottish Schools Rowing Championships

Inspired by the 2012 Olympics, a group of girls from Williamwood High School formed a rowing club and, after a hard winter’s training, competed at the Scottish Schools Rowing Championships for the first time. The championships held at Strathclyde Park over the weekend saw crews competing from all over the country. In the school girls under-15 doubles the crew of Elspeth Omand and Lauren Macnaughton finished second in their final and Elspeth Omand and Kirsty Hunter finished third in the school girls under 14 doubles final. Both crews had a hard day’s racing, coming through some tough heats on their way to the final. The crew were also joined by pupils Laura Speake and Rebecca Vest to compete in the final of the school girl under-15 coxed fours. Also racing over the weekend from the school were Lindsay Vest and Victoria Greenwood . Based at Clydesdale Rowing Club, the girls have received invaluable support from the club especially their coaches Willie Turner and Tom McGuiness.

PTA is organising a blazer recycling initiative

Williamwood High School PTA is organising a blazer recycling initiative. We are inviting parents to donate good quality blazers, which their children have outgrown and/or no longer need. We plan to offer these blazers to other parents at a reduced price. All profits made will go to the PTA to support projects that will directly benefit pupils of Williamwood.

How do I donate a blazer?  <further details>

School uniform – maintaining high standards

The standard of uniform worn by our pupils continues to be excellent.  Your support in maintaining this standard has been first class and I thank you for it.

I have arranged for Man’s World to come to the school from 3.00pm until 8.00pm on Wednesday 19 June.

At this event, you will be able to purchase a full range of uniform items. From experience, I know that many parents find this a convenient way to buy uniform for their children.

In June 2011, East Renfrewshire Council issued all parents with a copy……. <click further details>
