The course particularly emphasises the development of practical skills and textile construction techniques to make complex fashion\/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality.<\/p>\n<p>This course provides learners with opportunities to develop and communicate their own ideas for fashion\/textile items. They will also be given the opportunity to explore the technological process of developing fashion\/textile items and consider a range of design and construction techniques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The aims of the course are to enable learners to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>analyse and apply understanding of textile properties and characteristics<\/li>\n<li>investigate issues which influence the fashion\/textile industry and consumers<\/li>\n<li>apply understanding of the impact of fashion trends on the fashion\/textile industry<\/li>\n<li>use research, management and technological skills to plan, make and evaluate fashion\/textile items to meet a range of specified needs<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate a range of textile construction techniques to make fashion\/textile items<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Higher Fashion and Textile Technology course builds on and provides progression from the course at National 5 level, but differs in the depth and breadth of underpinning knowledge and understanding required to develop and make fashion\/textile items.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL LESSON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lessons will be of a practical nature building organisational techniques and complex sewing skills. You will have to complete a detailed plan, produce and evaluate fashion\/textile items in depth. You will learn about textile characteristics and properties, factors that affect fashion choices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW WILL IT BE ASSESSED?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course has three mandatory Units:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Textile Technologies<\/li>\n<li>Fashion\/Textile Item Development<\/li>\n<li>Fashion and Textile Choices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Learners must pass all of the required Units and the end of course assessment set by the SQA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CAREERS\/PROGRESSION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students can continue to study fashion and textiles at various colleges.
