Woodfarm Food Bank

Did you know that up to 350,000 people rely on Food Banks to feed their families in the UK?
Did you know that the UK Red Cross has started asking for food donations for the first time since World War II?
The Trussell Trust runs over 400 food banks in the UK and has seen a 170% increase in demand over the last 12 months. Of those it feeds 36% are children.
The Trussell Trust operates a centre which supports people in Glasgow.
Please consider donating to the Woodfarm High School food bank. A collection table will be at the front door each morning from Tuesday the 10th of December until Tuesday the 17th for you to donate items. Imagine what an impact we would have on poor families across Glasgow if every pupil was able to donate one item.
The following clip shows the type of items we are looking for and posters around the school have lists of required food items – please check this carefully before donating.
Thank you and please donate

Assessments in December

Good luck to S4 pupils who will be sitting prelims next week. Please access resources on GLOW or speak to your teacher for their blog details.

S1 and S2 pupils will also have an assessment for the Japan and Scotland unit.  You should access the school website and download the overview of assessments to help you to plan. You should also log on to GLOW and use the resources available.

Advanced Higher History

Pupils on the Advanced Higher History course visited Glasgow University library  to help prepare for their dissertation. Pupils had an opportunity to access historiography and a wide range of sources. Pupils are now looking forward to student life next year!

Samye Ling

RMPS pupils had the opportunity to visit Samye Ling Buddhist temple this week.  This visit allowed our young people to deepen their knowledge of RMPS in a Scottish context by seeing first hand how people put their beliefs into practice in today’s society.

Amnesty International

World Human Rights Day takes place on the 10th of December and we will be hosting an AmnesTea coffee morning on Friday the 13th in recognition of this event. Tickets will be charged at £1 and all proceeds will be donated to Amnesty International in support of LGBT rights around the world – particularly in Africa, where Amnesty is currently campaigning.

S4 Personal Development

Well done to Shelby, Morgan, Lucy, Lucia, Caitlin and Beth who have achieved a Saltire Award for their involvement in Mary’s Meals. The girls will be presented with their award at the Youth Achievement Awards ceremony to be held on Wednesday 13th November at Carmichael Hall.

The group are also taking part in the ‘Children in Need Go BearFaced’ . Going BearFaced is a simple way to raise money for BBC Children in Need by swapping your make-up for a Pudsey Pawprint. We are looking forward to the pictures.
