Article 3: Adults should do what’s best for you.

How can you support your child in Social Subjects and RMPS?

  • Check their homework diary to encourage your child to study for assessments and to make sure that they complete all homework assignments.
  • Encourage your child to regularly read over the work covered and discuss the topics with them.
  • Encourage your child to attend supported study sessions.
  • Encourage them to watch the news and documentaries about historical topics, geography and political issues.
  • Visit the local library to read and take notes from additional texts and materials available to prepare for the assignment.
  • Encourage your child to compare and contrast information, for example, discuss if the books and television programmes agree on significant issues, and discuss their differences.
  • If you are planning a day out, visit a museum or gallery that will link in with the work your child is doing in class. For example, the People’s Palace, medieval castles, Dynamic Earth, the Scottish Parliament and Kagyu Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery.
  • Go exploring with your child to help them to become aware of their surroundings.
  • Discuss their assignment with them and encourage them to reach a supported conclusion.
