S3 Geography Fieldtrip

Fieldwork has always been an important element in the study of Geography. This has now been formalised in the new qualifications and pupils at Woodfarm have been given the opportunity to opt from a choice of two proposed trips.

1. Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park – Tuesday the 11th of May
2. Glasgow – Urban Study – Thursday the 13th of May

Please read letter attached for further information on the S3 Geography outdoor learning opportunities.

BBC School report

Well done to the BBC report team who managed to meet the 3pm deadline. Special thanks to Mrs Mundie and Mr McNally for their help on the day and to the staff who agreed to be interviewed.

The Nation’s largest map is coming to Woodfarm

S1 and pupils from our cluster primaries will have an opportunity to wander around the coastline, stand on the highest peaks, discover the islands and even walk up the M8! Woodfarm has hired the use of the large floor map to support pupils to develop their map skills. We hope this will be a memorable experience that will bring Geography alive.

SAGT worldwise quiz

Well done to Andrew H, Kieran C and Owain T who came 3rd in the final at Dollar Academy . The pupils had to focus on researching and updating their knowledge of a wide variety of geographical facts and information leading up to the Scottish Final.

Amnesty International

Following on from our success last year when an S5 pupil won the UK young reporter of the year another two S5 pupils have qualified for the top 10 in the UK. Well done to Rhea and Claire who were both selected after writing articles to highlight human rights issues. We will find out if they make the final in London!

The Red Hand Day Campaign

S1 pupils took action to support Red Hand Day, an annual commemoration day against the practice of using children as soldiers. As part of their studies pupils have been investigating the use of child soldiers and formed a pressure group. Over 90 red hands were collected from pupils to demand stronger action by international leaders to end the use of child soldiers.

SAGT Worldwise Geography Quiz

Congratulations to all participants of the Worldwise Geography Quiz.

Both teams did really well against tough opposition from 7 schools from the West of Scotland.

Mrs Clarkes and Mr Taylors ’dream team’, picked and coached, triumphed winning the overall local and regional finals. This is the second year in a row that Woodfarm have won the local and regional contests.

Team members were Keiran C, Owain T and Andrew H. The boys will now compete in the National Final on the 25th of March.
