This year the RME department are running a trip to Glasgow Central Mosque and the Glasgow Central Gurdwara to supplement your child’s learning in the RME course.

The trip will be from 9.45am-1.45pm on Wednesday 25th January.  This should benefit your child in deepening their knowledge of Islam and Sikhism.

The details for the trip are as follows:

  • Pupils will meet at the front doors of the school at 9.45am and board the bus which will take them to Glasgow Central Mosque.
  • Pupils will partake in a guided tour of the mosque from 10.30am – 11.30am and be given opportunities to answer questions.
  • Pupils will re-board the bus and be taken to the Sikh Gurdwara in Albert Drive, Glasgow where they will partake in a tour from 12 noon until 12.45pm.
  • Pupils will be offered free food (Langar) at the Gurdwara which will all be vegetarian. If your child would like to bring their own food to eat instead, please ensure that no meat, eggs or fish products are brought onto the premises.
  • The bus will then take pupils back to school for approximately 1.30pm and they will go back to class.

Pupils are expected to wear full school uniform on the visit. There is also a dress code when entering the places of worship.  Female learners must wear a long skirt or trousers, and their shoulders and hair must be covered with a head scarf. Male pupils must wear full school uniform.

Research Skills in RME

dsc_0284

This week in RME our S2 have been completing a research project using the ExPLORE method.  This involves pupils using their research skills to:

  • Plan
  • Locate
  • Organise
  • Represent and
  • Evaluate

information which they have found in books and on websites.

Learners represent their findings by writing an information booklet on a world religion, which includes descriptions of key beliefs and practices, as well as a personal reflection and a bibliography.  Learners have the opportunity to do further research at fourth level which involves explaining the impact of that religion in society.

As well as learning more information about a world religion, this project seeks to enhance pupils’ literacy, numeracy and digital skills, to prepare them for future learning and the workplace.
