Safety in the Dark

Follow the advice below to stay safe on and around roads:

  • Be bright, be seen
  • Make sure to use a safe place to cross – don’t step out between parked cars and whenever possible, use a pedestrian or zebra crossing
  • Dress to be seen, wear something bright or reflective, especially when it is dark
  • Even if you aren’t into fluorescent colours, reflective sections or badges on your clothes, shoes or bag will make you safer at night
  • A reflective badge on your bag is a great way to be seen as you carry it every day and it won’t be covered up when outside
  • Being bright isn’t the only way to stay safe.  If you’re out at dusk or in the dark, choose routes and crossing places that are well lit
  • If you cycle, remember to wear a helmet and it’s law to have a clean and working light on your bike at night, as well as having a rear reflector
