Manage Distractions

Follow the advice below when on or around roads:

  • When near roads, make sure you have all your senses – especially when it is dark.  Put your hood down, take out your earphones and stop using your phone so you can be alert to oncoming traffic
  • If you are distracted by your phone or headphones, you are more likely to walk slower and less like to see other people.  This will put you and other road users at a greater risk of having an accident
  • Don’t let your music drown out the sound of the road.  Stop, Look, LISTEN – especially in the dark, because you can sometimes hear traffic before you can see it
  • Your life is more important than a conversation.  Never cross the road whilst chatting to people or talking on your mobile phone
