Social Studies

Through Social Studies, children and young people develop their understanding of the world by learning about other poeple and their values. They also develop their understanding of their environment and of how it has been shaped. Children take part in activities to develop their understanding of

  • People, past events and societies
  • People, place and environment
  • People in society, economy and business

Through our Social Studies programme pupils will have opportunities to apply a wide variety of skills, including investigating, exploring, discussing and presenting.  Educational  visits may be arranged to places of interest such as Vikingar, David Livingstone Centre and Burns’ Cottage.  Members of the local community and business partners are invited into school to put learning into context for real life and work.  We also offer opportunities for all pupils to participate in enterprise activities to allow them to develop entrepreneurial skills.
