P2/3 Assembly

img_3175Thank you to the parents and families who came to spend the afternoon with P2/3 learning about the Rights of the Child.  Also, a big thank you to Mr Frame who came to talk to the pupils about the project he is working on to provide more sustainable energy to the people of Africa.

We also celebrated Max, Mhairi, Mikey and Sophie who all earned a brick for our skills for life, learning and work wall.

The pupil council spoke to the audience about their all day dodgeball event which the media committee will be promoting and Zara spoke of P4/5’s success in a writing competition.  More details to follow!

P6/7 write about The Rights of the Child

P6/7  have been learning about poetry and we linked it to our right of the month. Lots of authors around the world participated in an event organised by UNICEF called tiny stories so we decided to take part too. We wrote a poem about what we want for every child, all of them were very good but Alexander Street’s (P6) stood out.

What I want for every child  By Alexander Street

I want every child to

have a home with lots of room

to play in.

I want every child to

be able to look into the eyes

of a loving parent or guardian.

I want every child to

wake up and hear birds singing

instead of gunshots.

I want every child to

run away from a chaser

instead of their home.

I want every child to

have a full meal

instead of the remains of one.

Rights Respecting Schools Primary 2/3

c d b fPrimary 2/3 are learning about the rights of the child in their Rights Respecting School topic.  The children acted out situations where rights were being respected.  The acted out their rights to an education by listening to the teacher, learning and  including everyone.  The also looked at their right to be safe and acted out some unkind behaviour in the playground. Well done Primary 2/3!  You certainly know your rights!
